Editorial Review for Buddakan – by Lauren McCutcheon

In Short
A 10-foot-high gilded Buddha, a communal dining table, chair backs with black-and-white portraits and a wall of falling water transform this former post office into a Zen shrine. Asian fusion plates meant for sharing include raw tuna on flatbread and sweetly sauced scallops. The dinner menu features the whole sizzling fish with sweet black bean-chili sauce and wasabi-crusted filet mignon. For dessert, sugary works of art defy gravity with spires, powders, sauces and confectionery flourishes.

Know Before You Go

Most dishes are large and meant to be shared; so select ones that appeal to your dining companions

What To Drink

Bartenders are always coming up with creative libations. Try a Sumo in a Sidecar II (apricot brandy, sake, a splash of sour, with a sugared rim and garnished with dried apricot).

Where To Sit

All dressed up and want everyone to notice? Reserve space at the onyx-topped community table, and be at the center of the action. (Seats 22.)

The food was great and service was awesome. They offered to put up the gift basket we made for a friend as we were there celebrating her pregnacy. I especially loved the lamb chops.

Pros: great food and customer service

Cons: none

The food here is even more scrumptious than the relaxed atmosphere! I promise, you could order every course of your meal blind-folded and you'll enjoy each dish set before you (of course using judgement where allergies are concerned). One plug I must push is their Green Tea Cheesecake that is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Each seperate sauce plays an important part in the experience. Indiviually, yummy but collectively it provides a delectable symphony that your tastbuds will thank you for bite after bite.

Pros: Excellent ambience, food and service

Cons: A little too noisy when the place is packed
